OUT OF DARKNESS
“In the dark times
Will there also be singing?
Yes, there will also be singing
About the dark times.”
— Bertolt Brecht
Out of Darkness is an immersive performance presented as part of Wavelengths Performance Festival, bringing together dance, sound, and video within a darkened, open space.
Created in a time marked by war, instability, and uncertainty, the work explores how we perceive, move, and remain attentive within shifting and fragile conditions. Invited choreographers, composers, and performers respond to the idea of Out of Darkness, creating a layered and evolving field of perspectives.
Audiences are invited to move freely through the space, encountering a dispersed landscape of actions—bodies, sounds, and images that appear and disappear. There is no fixed perspective; each experience is partial, shaped by proximity, attention, and chance.
Darkness operates as both material and structure, disrupting visual certainty and heightening awareness of the body and environment. Light and sound reveal and conceal, guiding attention without resolving it, creating a field of presence and absence.
Engaging themes of fear, isolation, and doubt, Out of Darkness offers a shared yet unstable space of encounter—where meaning emerges through experience, and where something collective can still be held within uncertainty.
